Art Choral, Vol. 10 : Hallelujah
Under the inspired direction of Matthias Maute, Ensemble ArtChoral offers a sensitive and deeply evocative immersion into the Jewish choral tradition—a surprisingly recent heritage, yet one of remarkable expressive richness. Before the emancipation of the 18th century, Jewish music relied primarily on oral transmission and monophonic singing; modernity then opened a vast field where Jewish culture and Western classical language meet and transform each other. The program on this album captures this complex history with finesse, offering a vibrant mosaic of styles—from early sacred polyphony to 20th-century American reinventions—where tradition and innovation, memory and renewal converge to reveal Jewish music as the living, ever-evolving voice of a culture in motion.
